Never Too Old to Learn
God’s Word guides us and helps us in many ways including encouraging us when we are in need of encouragement. This is such a wonderful resource for Christians and therefore, we need to not only use it, but put it in our long term memory.
Memorizing Scriptures can be very rewarding. What you want to do is start with a short verse to learn. This will build confidence and remember to have fun while learning verses. Make sure you mark it in your Bible and don’t forget that when you quote a verse, say the book , chapter and verse where it is found in the Bible. Also, do not simplify the verse. God’s Word is perfect just the way it is. Make flash cards with Scriptures on one side and the book, chapter and verse on the other. Take the cards with you when you go out so you can review the verse at different times of the day. Memorize in a way that makes it fun to learn another verse. And, reward yourself when you memorize a verse accurately. Get your parents involved and ask them to help you. And if you are looking for a good place to start, consider starting with these two verses:
Lk. 16:31 “And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”
Psa. 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”
