Death
At the end of our lives, our spirit shall return unto God and our bodies shall
return to the earth (Ecclesiastes 12:7). All men are susceptible to death (Hebrews
9:27). Death is the penalty of sin (Genesis 2:17; Romans 5:12). Death, however,
is not the end of the existence of man: the soul of man shall live on (Luke 20:36;
Luke 23:43). Death is only to be feared if one is unprepared. (See 2 Corinthians
5:8 and Philippians 1:23).
- Ecclesiastes 12:7: “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and
the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” - Hebrews 9:27: “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this
the judgment.” - Genesis 2:17: “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt
not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” - Romans 5:12: “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death
by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” - Luke 20:36: “Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels;
and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.” - Luke 23:43: “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt
thou be with me in paradise.” - 2 Corinthians 5:8: “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent
from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” - Philippians 1:23: “For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart,
and to be with Christ; which is far better.”
